One other option is to have 1 extractor directly linked to 2 generators, and set the extractor to run at 75% speed. Just don't rely on one pipe between the extractors and the generators. In simple terms, water extractors can only force water so high up a pipe, so you'll likely need some extra pumps if the power generators are higher than the extractors. Now water is a bit trickier, as you have to deal with head lift. Remember the throughput? If you build more, you'll eventually consume more than you are producing, at which point you run out of power and wonder why. But don't let this fool you into thinking you can build more generators. If you are producing 10 KW of power, but only use 5 KW, you'll only use 50% of the fuel. The reason being is power generators consume fuel based on power consumption. Now some of you may have already started building generators, feeding in coal, and noticing that they don't actually consume 15/min coal. With 120/min coal, you can fuel 8 coal generators. Alternatively a pure coal node will produce the same. Hopefully by this point you have a few slugs, so you could look at a normal coal node, with a mk 1 miner, and 2 slugs, which will produce 120/min coal. I would point out some good locations, but I don't have my map on me, so I'm just going to name Coal Hole, a bit north of the forest starting region and be done with it. When looking for coal, also keep in mind the need for water. A single coal generator using coal needs 15/min coal, and 45/min water. So why bring that up? Well the first thing you need to know about coal generators is how much coal they need to run at full capacity. As long as the input equals the output, and the conveyers are up to speed, things should run just fine. Now sure, you might have some coal build up if you are using the over-flow system. If you have a miner digging up 120/min coal, using 120/min conveyer belts, feeding machines that need 120/min coal total, you have a nice balanced throughput.
